Business Development Associate

Toronto, Ontario, Canada Full-time

As a Business Development Associate at Uken Games you play a vital role in helping allocate resources across existing growth businesses and assessing new business opportunities and potential partnerships in a highly detailed and rigorous fashion. You will use industry and business knowledge to drive the strategy for new projects, influence roadmaps and drive business creation and growth. This position reports to the Head of Operations and Finance.

You will be working on meaningful things like:

  • Helping to allocate $1-2m in marketing spend per month across existing growth businesses by building detailed financial models that consider the impact on topline growth, ebitda margins, and cash in the business.
  • Assessing new business opportunities - IP, financing, publishing, outsourced services, new platforms and maintaining relationships within the industry.  The end goal here is to build a pipeline of high potential opportunities.
  • Conduct build vs partner vs buy analysis and drive strategic leverage within the industry through our unique core competencies.
  • Building financial models to assess and compare the potential and risks of new products/businesses. Working with company leadership to make decisions with new products and strategies.
  • Improving forecasting capability of the company.
  • Continually keep tabs on the mobile gaming market to help identify:
      • New and effective business models, mechanics or genres
      • Mobile gaming trends
      • Potential partners or acquisition targets
  • Assisting with quarterly, annual, and multi-year financial forecasting and planning processes, supporting company leadership in gaining insight into the business. 

Your background should include:

  • 3-4 years of experience in a business development, investment banking or consulting role.  
  • Gaming industry knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills.
  • Strong familiarity with excel. VB or experience scripting or programming a plus.
  • Strong capabilities around investment or market research, collecting data, and testing assumptions.
  • Naturally analytical, curious, and detailed. Oriented towards problem solving and in particular, understanding key financial and operating drivers of a business.  
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with internal and external parties.
  • A proven ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with leads across the org, ability to earn and keep trust.
  • Ownership over all areas of responsibility, “roll up your sleeves” mentality, self-starter capable of driving business results without significant supervision.
